REQUIREMENTS:
-------------
Audiodeck requires System 7.0 or later and ColorQuickDraw in order to run.
Although you will not "crash", running in less than 16 colours is a not
"supported".
INSTALLATION:
-------------
First, you need to make sure that Foreign File System, Audio CD-ROM, and your
CD-ROM drivers are installed before running Audiodeck. You don't need CD Remote
INIT, but if you want to use the ability to see disc name and track name while
playing a CD with Audiodeck, you might want to keep a copy of CD Remote handy.
Once these things are installed (you should already have them in your
Extensions folder, but, just in case), you can double-click on the Audiodeck
icon, and enjoy it.
USING AUDIODECK:
----------------
Using Audiodeck is kinda straight forward. If you already used some sort of
tape deck, or a normal CD player, you will find your way quite easly in
Audiodeck.
You don't have to remember some cryptic option-key combinaisons for using
Audiodeck either, because every standard function is represented by it's own
individual button.
AUDIODECK's FEATURES:
--------------------
Autoplay:
--------
As you might notice, as soon as the disc is inserted, Audiodeck starts playing it
automatically. This can get quite handy when you hide Audiodeck's window
(described later), even when your foreground application isn't Audiodeck. You can
always disable this feature with the menu option under "Edit", named "Autoplay".
Volume control:
--------------
You can control the CD independant volume using the menu option under
Edit->Volume. Four volume settings can be used, with a fifth one that mutes
completly the sound output.
Automatic disc name and track name display:
----------------------------------------
Using the CD-Remote database, Audiodeck is able to display the name of the
inserted disc and the track name currently playing. You must however use (until a
later version of Audiodeck) CD-Remote to add new CD to the database. If the CD
isn't found in the CD-Remote database, Audiodeck will display "Disc name unknown"
and "Track name unknown" in the Audiodeck main window.
Play mode:
----------
There is four types of play modes in this release of Audiodeck:
- Using the big M button, you can change the current playing mode.
Replay-mode: (an arrow is shown just under the time display when activated)
------------
When this mode is activated, as soon as the last track is finished, Audiodeck
will restart with the first track.
Shuffle-mode: (a S in a black box is shown just above the track display
------------- when activated)
The shuffle mode is a feature that was introduced first in some Sony audio CD
player, and is quite handy. It provides the ability to play the tracks on a
particular CD in a random fashion. When the replay mode is activated when
using the Shuffle mode, Audiodeck will restart from the first track in the
shuffle table, and not only track 1.
Time display mode:
-----------------
You can switch time display mode by using the "chronometer" button on the
first row, on the extreme right.
Audiodeck has four distinct time display modes:
1> The time elapsed since the beginning of the track (labeled "elapsed")
2> The time remaining on this single track (labeled "remaining")
3> The time elapsed on the disc since the first track (labeled "total")
4> The time remaining on the disc (labeled "total rem.")
Hide:
-----
Anytime you can hide the main Audiodeck window, and let it run in the
background. This can become quite handy in a crowded desktop. Audiodeck will
still continue functionning normally, shuffling tracks, automatically replaying
CD which just ended, automatically start newly inserted CD, etc... If you quit
Audiodeck while the main window is hidden, next time you will restart Audiodeck,
the window will be automatically hidden.
Window position:
----------------
Audiodeck automatically remember the last position you put its main window
at. So, next time you run Audiodeck, the window will pop up at the place you put
it last time.
DISTRIBUTION:
-------------
This software is brought to you as CD-ware. What does this mean? It means
that if you use this software for a certain period of time, and likes it, and
think it deserves something, I would GLADLY accept musical CD as a registration.
You'll find a file named "David's CD List" along with the Audiodeck archive.
This is my last updated CD list, so if you send me a CD please don't send one
that I already have. I like alternative, techno-pop, industrial, experimental,
and some new-age music. Just look at my list, and judge by yourself.
There's no shareware reminders, expiration date or crippled features in
Audiodeck. I'm against those procedures myself, so I can't see why I would
implement them in my programs.
I think sending CD is a nice alternative to sending cash, especially
considering the nature of the program. If you don't want to send a CD (because
in your country, CD are rather expensive, etc), you can always send an
international money order (no checks, please) in US funds or Canadian funds
of 10$. This will be gladly accepted. Make the money order payable to
David Lebel.
Just make sure to send me your Internet address (if you have one) along with
your "CD-ware" payment, so I can add you to my mailing list for new updates or
revisions.
DISCLAIMERS:
------------
There's NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND for this software. The author of this
software can't take any responsability of any damage that might results in using
this software. However, if you have ANY comments or bug reports, just reach me on
the Internet, or by mail, and I'll gladly look at it ASAP.
I'm french-speaking, so English is a second language for me. So, please
apologize my rather passable English in this documentation, I've done my best.
THANKS FOR USING AUDIODECK!
HISTORY:
--------
1.0.1: Well, it seems I released the thing too soon, because one memory bug
was still in the program. Corrected.
1.0.2: Oh well, when you inserted a data CD in your CD-ROM while Audiodeck was
loaded, as soon as it tried to "play" it, Audiodeck went to no-man's land.
It's been fixed. When Audiodeck can't play a CD because it's a data CD,
the word "data" will be shown just below the time display. Only the
eject button will work on that kind of CD. Audiodeck won't even try
to find audio track on this kind of CD (for the moment).
1.0.3: More robust if Color QuickDraw isn't present.
1.0.4: The track name display was not updated when you changed the track number
before pressing play, and when you pressed play, it didn't changed to the
new track name.
1.0.5: Audiodeck sports a brand new interface (well, new colours), and I removed
the title bar since you can drag the window by click on the content. Thanks
to Igor Livshits!
